About

Emma Bernard is a sound designer, field recordist and musician based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington, Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Her practice explores the relationship between sound, place and listening, moving between field recording, environmental sound, electronic composition, sound design and live performance.

She is also the co-founder of electronic music initiative Tonic who host gigs, tours, talks and a radio show on Mouthfull Radio, with the aim to create explorative and immersive spaces for people to collaborate, experiment, and develop their practice.

When working with sound, two questions drive me: how am I using collaboration as its own form of artistic expression, outside of sound itself? And how am I expressing creativity in ways that are both genuine and working for something better?
